Following the successful completion of the contract to refurbish the main entrance steps at the front of the building last year, we were asked to carry out similar works to a newly formed concrete staircase in the car park at the rear of the building. The client’s project was to build a new car park facility on land at the rear of their head office. This was to be built on 2-levels which involved the construction of a large ramp and concrete staircase to provide vehicle and pedestrian access to both levels. We were advised by the client that the completion date was fast approaching therefore they required a fast, efficient execution from us. We were simply asked by the client to provide an anti-slip coating on the steps and landing to match our previous application at the front entrance. We suggested the client used a rapid hardening additive when forming the concrete staircase to improve speed of hydration to allow our coating to be applied prior to their handover deadline. The steps required extensive surface preparation by us which involved grinding and infilling of voids to provide a smooth, flat surface for us to lay on. To match the specification at the front entrance, the stair risers were coated in the same specific RAL colour and on the treads, we installed Gradus G12 exterior nosing with a double anti-slip channel, colour tornado. The system we installed as the wearing surface was Contar Dekor Broadcast using the coloured quartz blend as before. We were able to complete our works by the client’s deadline due to the fast curing properties of Contar products.
