Acton Park in London is home to many facilities for public enjoyment containing multi use games areas, a bowling green, café and various sports facilities, including the David Lloyd gym which has undergone a £9m refurbishment. The addition of an indoor and outdoor swimming pool, modern spa and racquet courts are just a few of the new amenities.

Interserve Construction appointed Total Protection to carry out the installation of Addagrip’s Addabound product to the outdoor swimming pool surround.

After numerous samples of Addagrip’s Resin Bound Gravel being offered and  considered by all parties, the selected colour blend was 3mm ‘Dune’.

Due to the existing surfaces surrounding and adjacent to the pool, Total Protection undertook a significant amount of preparation works required in order to provide a suitable substrate upon which to apply the final surface dressing.

A selection of issues to overcome were as follows:

  • Due to undulations in the existing substrate, varying depths surrounding the pool were in need of regulating and as such, Total Protection installed additional , compatible screed material in order to build up the levels to the required 12mm below the desired finishing level.
  • In areas, perimeters were non-existent, therefore 79 linear metres of Aluminium Edge Detail were also supplied and fixed in order to create a suitable, decorative edge detail to abut the Resin Bound Gravel against.
  • Drainage covers and channels also required repositioning and setting due to incorrect levels and substrate undulations.
  • Finally, 294m2 of Addagrip’s 3mm ‘Dune’ Addabound was laid in a single application in order to prevent any ‘day-joins’ and to ensure that completion was achieved prior to the grand opening of the health club.

All parties involved were delighted with the finished result.
